Ferrell "Papaw" Tackett, age 89, of 815 Braun Road, Belpre, OH died on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at his home.
He was a native of Salyersville, Kentucky and was a resident of Belpre for the past 47 years.
Ferrell was the son of the late Alonzo and Josephine Vanover Tackett. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Air Force in France and Germany, as well as a member of the American Legion. He worked at the Atomic Plant in Piketon, Ohio from 1954-1962 and retired from Borg Warner Chemicals in 1985, after 22 years of service. He also devoted his heart to volunteer work at St. Joseph's Hospital and to the Belpre Senior Citizens Center.
Ferrell was a great man of character with an unwavering faith in God who was always in church somewhere. His family was his pride and joy and he lived his life to the fullest as a role model for all. His sense of humor, positive attitude and zest for life will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife, LaVaughn Tackett; one daughter and son-in-law, Tina Ruth Parker and Wally Parker; 3 granddaughters and their husbands, Shelly Ann Combs Rob Combs, Nicole Lynn Williams Paul Williams and Brook Lee Kerns Michael Kerns; six great-grandchildren, Jacob Robert Combs, Emily Ann Combs, Maddie Ferrell Combs, Zoe Bella Williams, Jaidyn Elisabeth Thalia Williams and Josiah Michael Kerns; and one brother, Francis Tackett of La Mesa, California.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Lee Tackett; a son, Gary Douglas Tackett, killed in Vietnam; two sister; and two brothers.
Services will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, July 23, 2009 at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, OH with Pastor Teresa Waldeck officiating. Burial will be in the Rockland Cemetery, Belpre, OH.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-8 P.M..
