Otis Wade Allen, 81, of Coolville, OH, went to meet the Lord with his family surrounding him on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at Arcadia Valley Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation.
He was born July 28, 1932 in Carthage Township, Coolville, OH son of the late Ralph and Itha Gaston Allen.
Otis was a graduate of Troy High School and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lois Dixon on June 29, 1952. He retired from Athens Mental Health Center at the age of 50 with 30 years of service as a Stationary Steam Engineer. He drove a truck for the American Red Cross and an Athens City Bus Driver. He was also a Federal Hocking School Bus Driver before retiring due to ill health. He loved farming, growing up on a farm and his Black Angus Cattle.
Otis attended the Calvary Pilgrim Chapel at Pomeroy, serving as Usher for several years and was a member of the Coolville Holiness Camp Meeting Board since 1966. He and his wife attended many Southern Gospel Music Concerts and enjoyed going to places such as the Smokey Mountains, Mt. Sterling, OH, Charleston, WV, Columbus, OH and many places in between. Otis never met a stranger.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, Mary Lois Dixon Allen; he is survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Jim Debbie Allen of Coolville, OH, Ed Mary Allen of Fairmont, WV and Steve Kim Allen of Coolville, OH; Grandchildren, Jeana Jamie Vancil of Charlotte, NC, April Rigo Bravo of Spring, TX, Katrina Miller Harold Snider of Fairmont, WV, Jessica Steve Randolph of Coolville, OH, Jameson Patty Allen of Coolville, OH, Erika Allen of Boston, MA, Glendon Allen of Coolville, OH, Grayson Allen of Coolville, OH and Leah Allen of Coolville, OH; great-grandchildren, Mariah, Maria, McKenzie, Dominique, Derik, Cynthia, Lola, Mary Martha, Marina Genene, Kiley and Jakob; a sister, Mary McGlone of Groveport, OH; many nieces, nephews, church friends and school bus students; and a pet Boston Terrier, Maggie.
In additon to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bud and Bertha Allen; his father and mother-in-law, Edgar and Myrtle Dixon; a sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Francis Coen and a brother-in-law, Richard McGlone.
Services will be held at 1 P.M., Tuesday, Aug 6, 2013 at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, OH with Rev. Charles McKenzie of Pomeroy, OH, officiating. Burial will be in the Coolville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday, from 5-8 P.M.
