Richard Lloyd Coleman, 93, of Long Bottom, OH passed away Sept. 27, 2010 at his home after a long battle with cancer.
Richard was born June 14, 1917 in Jackson County, WV, son of the departed Lloyd Coleman and Fanny Dye Coleman Adams. He was a veteran of World War II where he served as a crew chief in the Army-Air Force. He proudly served the duration of the war in India, flying supply missions in and out of China and Burma.
After the war he worked in construction, was a long haul truck driver and an auto mechanic before earning his teaching certification from The Ohio State University. He was a retired auto mechanics teacher from the Meigs Local School System.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Stella Jackson Coleman; a sister, Iris Coleman; his daughters, Virginia Coleman Harl and Merrilee Coleman Bryant and two great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Martha Bill Durst and Melissa Coleman; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.
Richard was a devoted lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9053 and a member of the Keno Church of Christ.
He will be remembered for his love of life, family, music, singing, writing short stories and articles, the outdoors, reading and telling incredible stories.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 at the Heiney Cemetery, Reedsville, OH with Wayne Dunlap officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by the VFW Post 9053. A meal for family and friends will be provided directly after the graveside service at the VFW Post 9053 prepared and served by the Ladies Auxiliary.
Friends may call at the White-Schwarzel Funeral Home Wednesday, from 6-8 P.M.
