Amanda was born on December 2, 1976 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and was raised in Coolville, Ohio. She was the daughter of Bob and Virginia Barber. Amanda was a caring and loving person; she was so sharp, creative, loving, caring, and warm. She was the light of all her family and friends’ lives. A room would light up with Amanda’s presence as she walked in. But her maternal instincts far exceeded everything, and her life centered on her love for her children, for which she would make any sacrifice.

Amanda was supportive of everyone and made people feel welcomed, whether she knew them for ten years or for ten minutes. She cared deeply about social justice and environmental causes, often donating to non-profits and making it her mission to elevate others before herself. She was also a great lover of nature and found joy in going to the Smokey Mountains or just exploring her own backyard. In her free time, Amanda found herself captured by Stephen King novels, watching and rewatching her favorite TV show, I Love Lucy, or maybe even painting the sunset with Bob Ross. She enjoyed the simple things in life like going to the farmer’s market or going for an afternoon stroll, and she loved animals like fellow people.

Amanda worked as a Contract Coordinator in the Contract Services department at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She graduated from Ohio University in 2012 with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice, honors: magna cum laude, with hopes of obtaining a Master's in Environmental Studies.

She is preceded in death by her father, Bob Barber; grandfathers, Raymond Gorrell and Wilbert Barber and grandmothers, Clara Gorrell and Gladys Barber. Survivors include her sons, Akira Jakkson and Aden Fisher; mother, Virginia Barber; brothers, Keith and Kenneth Eye and Beidy Sow; sister, Karen Rockhold; nephews and nieces, Tony and Clint McPherson, Elisabeth Eye-Rohr and Timothy Eye; her two cats, Sammy and Tiki, and many other extended family members and friends.

We love you, Amanda, and will miss you always. It is an honor to have known you, and we thank you for sharing your love with all of us.
